Mission & Vision

Harbor Habitat for Humanity is a Christian non-profit housing ministry that seeks to eliminate substandard housing in Benton Harbor and Benton Charter Township by engaging the community and partnering with families to provide them with a safe, decent, and affordable place to live.  In order to make homes affordable to low-income families, we seek and encourage the support of volunteers to build each house. Houses are sold at no profit with a long-term, interest-free mortgage. Monthly mortgage payments are used to finance additional Habitat homes.

History

Harbor Habitat for Humanity was established in 1995 as a 501©3 non-profit housing ministry dedicated to building decent, affordable housing in partnership with those in need, in the city of Benton Harbor and Benton Charter Township. In 2001, with  to the help of all of our volunteers, Harbor Habitat built offices and a warehouse on E. Main St. Benton Harbor.  Soon after moving into our new home we hired our first full time staff member. Now with over 10 full time staff and board of directors, Harbor Habitat well organized
