Family Selection Process
Step 1:
Enrollment Begins
• Check “Family Services Calendar” for dates of new enrollment periods. Also, be sure to check on enrollment deadline
• Often, there is a Prospective Partner Family Orientation that you will need to attend to get an application – check our Family Services Calendar for orientation dates
• If there is no orientation, just stop by our office and pick up a Partner Family Application or download it from our website (guidelines for eligible partner families can be found under Family Selection Criteria of our website)
Step 2:
Enrollment Ends
• Harbor Habitat stops accepting applications
• Date will be posted on Family Services Calendar on website
Step 3:
Candidate Analysis
• Applications will be examined by the Family Selection Committee. If candidates meet all three requirements for selection they will move on to the interview process.
• If candidates are denied because they do not show a great enough need for shelter, receive too little or too much income, or are unwilling to partner with Habitat – candidates can reapply at a later enrollment period when circumstances change.
Step 4:
Interview Process
• Family Selection will make a house visit to inspect conditions of current living situation
• Prospective Partner Families will participate in an interview with the Family Selection Committee regarding willingness to partner and conditions of Habitat for Humanity
Step 5:
Final Interview
• Prospective Partner Family names will be presented to the Harbor Habitat Board of Directors and they will make the final decisions based on what the Family Selection Committee presents
• If you are a candidate who meets all of the requirements; however, you are not selected for a Habitat House, your application will be kept on file with Harbor Habitat and you will be considered for the next enrollment period (you do not need to reapply).
