Family Selection Committee Responsibilities
The most important work of Harbor Habitat is to identify and support our families as they move into home ownership. This is the work of the Family Selection Committee . This group of dedicated and caring individuals is responsible for selecting Habitat Partner Families. The committee reviews applications, sets up home visits, runs credit checks, and interviews potential partner families.
The three criteria for partner families:
- need for shelter
- ability to pay Habitat mortgage
- willingness to partner (each adult contributes 300 hours of "sweat equity" working on their home and other Habitat homes)
Members of this committee are asked to make a minimum two year commitment. During this time, training is provided on working with partner families, the closing process, and many more subjects.
It is very challenging, but extremely rewarding. Please consider what you can do to be a part of this exiting process!
